The Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce mourns the loss of our former CEO, Dixie Johnson, whose leadership, vision and unwavering dedication helped shape our organization and community for more than 14 years.

Dixie joined the Chamber as CEO in January 2011 and quickly became one of the most respected and influential business advocates in Wyoming. Throughout her tenure, she championed local businesses, fostered partnerships, encouraged community collaboration and worked tirelessly to strengthen Sheridan County’s economy and quality of life. Her impact can be seen in the programs, events, relationships and initiatives that continue to serve our members and community today.

Under Dixie’s leadership, the Chamber grew in both influence and effectiveness, earning statewide recognition and establishing a reputation as one of Wyoming’s premier business organizations. She was named Wyoming Chamber Executive Director of the Year, an honor that reflected not only her professional accomplishments but also the respect she earned from colleagues across the state. Throughout her career, she was known for her integrity, professionalism, work ethic and genuine care for the people she served.

While her professional accomplishments were remarkable, those who knew Dixie best will remember something even greater: her heart. She believed deeply in Sheridan County and in the people who call it home. She celebrated others’ successes, encouraged emerging leaders and always sought ways to bring people together for the betterment of the community. Whether welcoming a new business owner, advocating for economic development, organizing community events or mentoring staff and volunteers, Dixie approached every opportunity with enthusiasm, kindness and purpose.

When she was diagnosed with glioblastoma in 2024, Dixie faced the challenge with the same courage, resilience and grace that defined her life. Even while undergoing treatment, she remained grateful for the community she loved and the people she had the privilege to serve. In her farewell message upon retirement, she expressed heartfelt appreciation for the Chamber team, board members, business community and countless individuals who supported her throughout her journey. That gratitude reflected the person she was — someone who never took for granted the relationships and opportunities that enriched her life.

In February 2025, the Chamber honored Dixie for her years of service and leadership. Though she was unable to attend, the standing ovation she received spoke volumes about the admiration and appreciation our community held for her. Her legacy extends far beyond any single award or recognition. It lives on in the businesses she supported, the leaders she mentored, the programs she helped build and the stronger community she helped create.

Dixie often said how grateful she was for the privilege of serving Sheridan County. Today, we are the ones who are grateful — grateful for her leadership, her friendship, her mentorship and her lasting contributions to our community.

On behalf of the Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce, our Board of Directors, staff, members and partners, we extend our deepest condolences to her husband Mick, her children Courtney and Rob and their spouses, her grandchildren and all who loved her.

Dixie Johnson leaves behind an extraordinary legacy of service, leadership and community spirit. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Thank you, Dixie, for all you gave to Sheridan County. Your impact will continue to be felt for generations to come.
