How to Boost Your Marketing Through Membership

As a small business owner, your resources and time can be limited. That’s why the Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce comes alongside our members in providing easy, free marketing avenues that all members can use to get the word out about their business, events and job openings.
Whether you’re just starting your business journey or have been a Sheridan staple for years, all businesses can benefit from the visibility that the Chamber’s marketing benefits provide. Read on for a quick summary of each, and if you have additional questions about how you can best make your Chamber membership work for you, reach out to Chamber Member Relations Director Kelly Morris at kmorris@sheridanwyomingchamber.org or (307) 672-2485.
Member 2 Member Newsletter
The Chamber publishes its Member 2 Member newsletter, featuring member-generated ads and news, every Thursday.
In last week’s newsletter alone, members shared news about a women veterans town hall, a May Day scavenger hunt and a two-day horse-packing clinic. That’s just a taste of what over 1,900 Chamber members and their employees have delivered into their inboxes every week. If they’re not seeing the latest updates from your business, they’re missing out, and you are too.
All Chamber members can advertise in the newsletter three times a quarter or roughly once a month. If you’re a Chamber Community Partner, you can utilize the newsletter as many times as you want, and even make it a weekly part of your marketing campaigns.
Chamber staff can work with most file types and sizes when putting the newsletter together – jpgs and pdfs are most common. If you’ve never created an ad before or don’t have a marketing person to help you, we recommend utilizing Canva – a free-to-use online graphic design tool. If you have any questions about how to create your ad, please reach out to the Chamber at (307) 672-2485, and we’re happy to walk you through it.
Once your ad is complete, send it to info@sheridanwyomingchamber.org. If you wish the ad to run more than once during the quarter, just let us know what dates you would like it to run.
Live Life Local
If you’re posting regularly on Facebook, our Live Life Local Facebook group provides an opportunity to share your posts with a large group of community members beyond those already following you on Facebook. Live Life Local has nearly 3,000 members, providing an opportunity to grow the reach of your posts exponentially.
Members can post to Live Life Local as many times a day as they want. Ask to join the group. Once you’ve been accepted to the group, click share on your post and then click “Group.” Select “Live Life Local Sheridan County” and then click “Post.” If you have any problems or questions, reach out to info@sheridanwyomingchamber.org.
Ribbon Cuttings
Are you a new Chamber Member? Has your business moved its location or changed its ownership? These are big milestone moments that deserve to be celebrated, and the Chamber wants to come alongside you and do just that by holding a ribbon cutting.
During ribbon cuttings, our Chamber Ambassadors show up to learn about your business, cut a ribbon and take a picture celebrating your business’s big day. That picture is then shared with The Sheridan Press, Sheridan Media, and on the Chamber’s website, socials and Chamber Online newsletter. It’s a great way to let the community know about your business’s big news.
Not sure whether your milestone qualifies for a ribbon cutting? Reach out to Kelly at (307) 672-2485 or kmorris@sheridanwyomingchamber.org for more information, and to schedule your ribbon cutting.
Listings in the Chamber’s Online and Print Directories
As the front door to the community, the Chamber has an online membership directory that includes all members listed by category. In addition, the Chamber publishes an annual Community Guide and Member Directory, which is distributed in all relocation packets, conference welcome bags and to visitors, residents and other businesses.
Being featured in both the print and online directories increases visibility for your business and gets your key details – including your address, phone number and website – into the hands of thousands of people.
Has it been a while since you’ve updated your Member Directory details? Reach out to Kelly at (307) 672-2485 or kmorris@sheridanwyomingchamber.org, and she can make sure your details are up-to-date and accurate so folks can find you.
Job postings
Are you hiring and want to get the word out? The Chamber’s Jobs page is the top viewed page on our website, and a great place to let the community know about your new job opportunities.
Once you’ve crafted a job listing, send it to info@sheridanwyomingchamber.org. Be sure to include how prospective employees can apply for the job – that’s one of the most frequent pieces that people forget! The Chamber generally runs all job postings for eight weeks, but can run for more or less time based on what your needs are.
In-office marketing
The Chamber office is one of the first stops for visiting tourists and folks looking to relocate to Sheridan County. If you want them to know about your business or an upcoming event you’ll be holding, bringing your member materials to the Chamber helps get the word out.
Have business cards? Bring some down to the Chamber’s wall of business cards, and join over 200 businesses who do the same. Be sure to bring your fliers and brochures as well, because we have a place for those too. And if you have an event coming up, bring by a poster for us to hang on our wall, and a few extra for visitors to take with them.
Don’t have time to run materials by our office at 54 S. Main St.? If you have digital files, just sent those to info@sheridanwyomingchamber.org and let us know you’d like them printed and on display in our office.
Chamber Member Mailing List
As a member, you have access to the mailing addresses for your fellow Chamber Members. Be sure to reach out to info@sheridanwomingchamber.org for that information. If you’re planning a big mailing, also inquire about the Chamber’s bulk mailing permit, which can be used to save money on large mailings.
Sponsorships
Sponsoring a Chamber program or events – such as the Ignite Conference or Christmas Stroll – or a publication like our Community Guide or Community Maps is a great way to enhance your business’s visibility. For more information about sponsorship, call the Chamber at (307) 672-2485.
