Meet the Chamber Staff: Teresa Detimore

Teresa Detimore has been one of the driving forces of the Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce for 16 years. Teresa served for many years as the Chamber’s Program Development Director, before taking over as CEO earlier this year.
As CEO, Teresa is intimately involved in all aspects of the Chamber’s operations including leadership and strategic direction; member and stakeholder relations; financial and organizational management; advocacy and government relations; board governance and collaboration; community and economic development; and marketing communications and programs.
As she settles into her new position, Teresa took some time to reflect on all the Chamber accomplished in the last 16 years, and to look toward the future.
Tell us a bit about yourself and what you do for the Chamber?
I am originally from Iowa. I have been in Wyoming since 2005, living in Laramie first and then Sheridan.
In Laramie, I worked for the UW Alumni Association as an Administrative Assistant and then moved to the role of Coordinator of Area Public Relations. In this role, I coordinated all of the events and programs.
When we moved to Sheridan with my husband’s job, I began working for the Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce right away, and the rest is history! I am now the CEO and still truly believe in what we do.
What are you most proud of accomplishing during your time with the Chamber?
I am proud of a lot! I have seen our Leadership Sheridan County program grow and develop. Christmas Stroll has evolved into an all-day event that brings people out to support local businesses. Our Ignite Conference started off with 60 people in attendance and has grown to 190. We have strengthened our partnerships with a variety of community organizations and helped support business retention and expansion efforts. The local manufacturing industry has also grown in those 16 years, and it’s wonderful that we can help draw attention to this industry with our Manufacturing Month.
What project are you working on right now that you’re most excited about?
I am excited for strategic planning coming up shortly. Being able to work with our Board of Directors to plan the future of the Chamber is very exciting for me.
Why do you work/for the Chamber and what’s your advice to others who want to get involved?
I love what we do for the community. We have such a vibrant business community here and being able to support that is amazing. If you are interested in helping the Chamber at all, jump in! There are so many ways to volunteer and work with us – from being on a committee to volunteering a couple hours for an event. We couldn’t do what we do without our volunteers.
