Chamber Lunch Program: Why Cities Matter
11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Holiday Inn
Join us for the Chamber’s September Lunch Program, “Why Cities Matter,” presented by Samuel Western, Northern Rocky Mountain economic and political history author and former correspondent for the Economist of London. Drive west from Minneapolis and it takes nearly 1500 miles until you reach a major city, Boise. This absence of cities in the Northern Rockies and Great Plains did not happen by accident. According to presenter Samuel Western, in Wyoming we don’t have warm fuzzy feelings about anything urban, however, as we move away from carbon-based fuels, which is going to be a while, cities will gain greater significance. Even with oil and gas still a major player, we are looking at cities with different financial dynamics such as Sheridan. Western will look at the history of how the absence of cities in the West came about, why it needs to change and how small cities have a lot to offer right now. Cost is $20 per person, which includes the lunch buffet and program. Advanced registration is required. To register, please call the Chamber at (307) 672-2485 or online here.
